Nilu Maboudi, M.D.

“Laser vision correction has transformed eye care. By the time the kids of today reach their twenties, it will be just as natural for them to have LASIK surgery as it would be today to have braces.”

Dr. Maboudi then completed an Ophthalmology Internship at Oschner Hospital before completing her training at Tulane University Medical School. Prior to joining Griffin & Reed Eye Care, she studied under Marguerite McDonald M.D., the first surgeon to perform laser vision correction in the United States. Dr. Maboudi is an experienced surgeon at Griffin & Reed Eye Care. Over the years she has performed thousands of LASIK and PRK cases throughout Northern California. Dr. Maboudi enjoys spending her free time with her husband and two daughters.

Kwang S. Kim, M.D., Ph.D.

“Laser vision correction can positively influence many facets of everyday life. Patients convey the joy and wonder of driving, participating in hobbies, sports and countless other activities without the need for glasses or contacts. This is the aspect of refractive surgery that I enjoy the most. My first and foremost goal is delivering quality patient care and I feel reassured that we are doing this in a safe and appropriate way at Griffin & Reed Eye Care.”

Kwang Kim M.D. Ph.D. joined Griffin & Reed Eye Care in June 2005. Dr. Kim attended the University of Iowa, where he obtained his BS in Biochemistry with a Math minor. He attended the University of Iowa College of Medicine and Department of Biochemistry, where he earned his M.D. Ph.D. degrees as a part of the Medical Scientist Training Program. After completing a transitional year at St. John’s Mercy in St. Louis, he completed his Ophthalmology training at Washington University in St. Louis. Brent Reed, M.D. Retired

“Approaching refractive surgery from a patient’s perspective, I appreciate the hopes and concerns that they all have about the precious gift of sight. Since childhood, I was burdened with high myopic-astigmatism. For me to function, I depended on thick glasses or uncomfortable contact lenses. Then, in July of 1994 my life changed. I had laser vision correction! The world became clear for me without lenses for the first time in my memory. I am no longer dependent on corrective lenses to appreciate life. I am grateful for the gift I’ve been given. As a laser refractive surgeon, and a very satisfied patient, I have been privileged to share this unique experience with many thousands of patients and friends. Every day is a new joy.”

Dr. Reed attended the University of Utah where he earned a BS degree in Chemistry, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated with honors. Dr. Reed graduated from medical school and served his Ophthalmology internship at the University of Utah after graduating in 1983. He completed his Ophthalmology training through residency at the University of California, Davis, and subsequently joined Dr. Griffin in private practice.

J. Robert Griffin, M.D. Retired

Dr. Griffin, retired in 2000, is currently spending most of this time teaching physicians in other countries such as Bolivia, Chile, Africa, etc., advanced ophthalmological techniques in order to help them to be able to provide better care to their patients. You may see Dr. Griffin in the halls from time to time when he stops by to say hello.
